The Royal College of Physicians has long recognised the value of working closely with other organisations.
Often it is possible to achieve change, or to do so more quickly and effectively, by demonstrating that it is not sought by the RCP alone but by other organisations too.
In some cases, we do so as part of a formal coalition, sharing expertise, insight and resources on a longer-term basis. The RCP is part of five public health alliances covering some of the areas with the biggest impact on health – smoking, alcohol, obesity, climate change and health inequalities.
Public health alliance campaigns have led to major governmental and societal changes to protect the public from health harms, reducing death and disease.
