Professor Andrew Goddard, president of the Royal College of Physicians said: “It is absolutely right that key access standards are reviewed periodically to check how effective they are for patients.
"This review highlights the considerable work that’s been done to pilot the new measures to date. However it’s still early days and there’s not enough data yet to confidently draw conclusions about their impact.
“Clinicians on the ground know that the real test for the pilot sites will be how the proposed measures fare over what is predicted to be one of the most difficult winters for the NHS to date.”
