In response to Leaving the EU: implications and opportunities for science and research: Government Response to the House of Commons Science and Technology Committee’s Seventh Report, RCP president Professor Jane Dacre said:
We welcome the government response to the science and technology inquiry, recognising as it does the importance of the research sector in the UK, and that this is one of the top priorities for the forthcoming negotiations. The government commitment to securing the status and providing certainty to EU nationals already in the UK, including researchers, is a step towards the reassurance needed by all EU nationals working in the NHS and in research.
International colleagues in the NHS workforce are a valuable asset in an underfunded, underdoctored, overstretched workforce and should be welcome. The UK should also continue to be a welcome and attractive place for those seeking to work in the NHS.
