Future Hospital Programme case study wins cardiac care award

The report, authored by the team at Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, showed that tackling the management of fluids for adults following cardiothoracic procedures contributed to a significant reduction in acute kidney injury (AKI) occurrence.

Clinicians set key outcomes and actions, including standardising practice, developing new pathways, training and improving discharge communication with primary care.

A statement from the Health Service Journal judging panel said:

[AKI] is a well-recognised problem and a priority across the NHS. Papworth demonstrated they had a clear solution in place to ensure patient safety

A spokesperson from the Future Hospital Programme said:

The RCP and the Future Hospital Programme, would like to congratulate the team at Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, not only for the fantastic success in winning this award, but also for their outstanding commitment to the improvement of outcomes for patients accessing services at the trust.
