Dr Emma Vaux has been appointed as the Royal College of Physicians' (RCP's) new vice president for education and training (also called the senior censor) following a vote by over 3,150 fellows.
The ballot, which closed on 15 June 2017, also included the election of four new members to RCP Council: Dr Aine Burns, Dr Sue Carr, Professor Namita Kumar and Dr Pippa Medcalf.
During the election Dr Vaux, who qualified as a doctor 27 years ago, called effective and responsive education 'fundamental to improving healthcare and health', adding that it has never been a 'more important time for the RCP to focus on time for education than now'.
Discussing the key aims of her new role, Dr Vaux said:
I want to grow and strengthen the RCP as the education hub physicians turn to, ensuring every opportunity for the offerings to be more accessible, responsive and relevant, particularly at regional level.
