‘RCP involvement in consultant appointments benefits everyone involved’

Dr Olwen Williams, vice president for Wales said:

‘College involvement in job description approvals and representation on AAC panels benefits both the employer and the job applicants. The independence of the RCP ensures a fair, transparent, and robust process of candidate selection and interview. This in turn helps to ensure that the new consultant will be supported to become an outstanding physician and deliver excellent patient care. The process is a win-win for the employer and the clinician.

‘We will continue to organise college approval of consultant job descriptions, and I’d like to take this opportunity to offer RCP support in approving specialty doctor job descriptions. I believe this would be an invaluable development in our offer to specialty doctors who are not in training, and it would be helpful to have Welsh government support for this approach.’
